This week at the Market

by Karen on June 27th, 2013

Update: March 2014–Mama Ks GF Bakery is on hiatus

The Magnolia Farmers Market is a community gathering spot each Saturday and a fun place to pick up fresh produce, flowers, cheese, baked goods, and lunch!

Each week there is something new to taste……(at the end of this post I will tell you what I will bring to market this week)

I had a chance to visit with other vendors last week and here are a few vendors offering items made with gluten free ingredients. It seems like they follow best practices to avoid cross contamination,  but you will want to ask further questions:

Keep It Real Food Co. owner Katie was diagnosed with Type I diabetes at age 11 and creates high protein, low-glycemic snacks using healthy ingredients. Many people who suffer from celiac disease are diabetic too.  These folks often stop by my booth to ask about sugar content.
Katie is your gal!
(but keep in mind Mama K can bake special order items using stevia).

Got Soup will tempt you with their fresh, local, organic, vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free options.  It always smells so good, I hope I get a chance to sneak a bowl of soup this weekend!   They sell it frozen so it’s easy for you to transport.

Whidbey Island Ice Cream –I see many people walking through the market with a chocolate dipped ice cream bar, they look delish!

Metropolitan Market demonstrates the making of their fresh mozzarella, completely addicting!

Tieton Farm & Creamery brings artisan cheese to our market from their happy grass fed herd.  Chevre, Feta, Halloumi and Camembert cheeses.  Note to self–buy their cheese.

Trevani Truffles uses chocolate from Venezuela, Costa Rica, the Amazon, Tobago and Mexico.  Lovely truffles ….and as a fellow truffle maker I am sure they taste marvelous.  They will likely be the freshest truffles you have ever tasted.

And as always the produce is spectacular–the strawberries from Youngquist Farm have been amazing.  And the flower vendor next to me, Ia’s Garden, is a friendly hard-working family that welcomed me into the fold immediately not wasting a minute to help set up my pop-up tent as I stood there perplexed the first few times–thank you!

This week Mama K is featuring morning energy food and some good old fashioned apple pie.

This Saturday:

oats, honey, nuts, Omega-3

Hazelnut Zucchini Bread-

toasted hazelnuts, zucchini, applesauce, orange juice, and healthy GF flours

Apple Pie- By the Slice and Whole Pies

–filled with Washington apples, oat flour, sorghum flour, our multi blend flour mix, cinnamon, and just the right balance of sweetness.

We will also offer samples throughout the day 10am-2pm……

Stop by for a visit!
