Gluten Free Pumpkin Pie-new

Instead of making a birthday cake for a family member I am baking gluten free pumpkin pie.  I know that when everyone gets home I will hear “why didn’t you bake a birthday cake?” and my response will be “you don’t like pumpkin pie?”

Clearly my family is taking one for the team (meaning you).  So that you can plan your excellent pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving, my family will be forced to eat pumpkin pie now AND in a few weeks!   I needed some new pumpkin pie photos so of course I had to bake pie.

A few years ago I was baking pies at the Seattle Pie Co., we began baking pumpkin pies in October, it was crazy, people love to get an early start eating pumpkin pie weeks before Thanksgiving.  Seattle Pie has grown and changed their business plan to supply pies to local grocery stores.  You may get to see their family in action soon in a reality show which may be entertaining and  I can’t really tell you why….so I will just leave you hanging.  Watch for Allysa and Patrick Lewis on a November episode of the Cooking Channel’s “For the Love of Pie!”

This recipe is quite special not only because of the intense spice pumpkin filling but because it is from my grandmother and aunt Judy.  My aunt recently began the gluten free diet and I am sure she will be baking this crust version this year.  I am so glad she not only shared the family pumpkin filling with me but also because she is feeling great now.
