Suzzanne Myer, The Elimination Diet

by Karen on September 28th, 2010

I recently added a link to nutritionist and dietitian Suzanne Myer, the Elimination Diet.

Many people have mutiple food sensitivities that are successfully discovered by going through the elimination diet.  We did this with our daughter when she was quite young and found a sensitivity to corn and dairy.  When Suzzanne and I spoke recently I learned that even though we thought our daughter outgrew it, her current sinus issues may indicate the problem still exists. We will have to do further investigation.

Considering the long term affects of untreated celiac disease, it is important for anyone who shows a reaction to any food containing gluten, while on the elimination diet, to go to a gastroenterologist for further testing to completely rule out celiac disease.  Gluten is hidden in so many foods and medicine that a firm diagnosis CD is critical.  Researchers are working to develop a pill to treat celiac disease and there are discussions within the medical community that in order to qualify for this future prescription you will need to be a biopsy proven celiac.  The jury is still out on that one, but the benefits of a firm diagnosis still outweigh the negatives.

Suzzanne is terrific, if you live in the Seattle area I highly recommend scheduling an appointment with her, the food you eat  may be causing you problems in other areas and she can help you develop a solution.
